“…Several artists in this exhibit directly look at the past to illuminate the present and, we would argue, posit a future…. Likewise in Labour Day, jake moore examines the fraught history of the country’s coldest windiest corner, Portage and Main. Through postcards, quintessential travel souvenirs, moore lays bare the decline of Winnipeg from 1919 to the present. By presenting two photographs of the same view taken 88 years apart, she starkly illuminates some of the features of this steep and steady drop; a lack of political engagement, absence of pedestrian traffic, and the now tyrannical reign of the automobile.
